【英語なぞなぞ】子供も大人も楽しめる問題＆解説 -PART 22-
こどもたちが大好きな「なぞなぞ」は、英語ではriddle（s）といいます。
英語のなぞなぞで有名なものやおもしろいものをいくつか、解説付きでご紹介します。
1. Different Answers
What is the question you can ask all day, get different answers for the same, and they would still be correct?
いつ聞いてもいいけれど、毎回違う答えが返ってくる。でもどれも正解。どんな質問？

What’s the time?（いま何時？）
【解説】
“Do you have the time?” でも正解です。
2. A Black Dog on a Road
A black dog lies on a black road. No streetlights are on. A car with broken headlights comes down the road but avoids the dog. How did the driver see the dog?
黒い犬が黒い道に寝ている。そこを照らす街灯もない。ヘッドライトの壊れた車がその道を通ったが、犬をよけることができた。なぜ運転手は犬が見えた？
【答え】
It was daytime.（昼間だったから）
【解説】
質問が長いので、つい惑わされてしまいますね。
3. Cats in the Morning
What do cats read in the morning?
朝、猫が読むものって何？
【答え】
Mewspapers.（新聞／”ミュース” ペーパー）
【解説】
“newspaper（新聞）” の “new” と猫の英語の鳴き声、”mew” がかけてあります。
4. The Declaration of Independence
Where was the Declaration of Independence signed?
アメリカ独立宣言、署名されたのはどこ？
【答え】
On the bottom.（一番下）
【解説】
「アメリカ！」と答えたくなりますが……サインは文書の最後に書かれています。
画像は「アメリカ独立宣言」で検索するとたくさん出てくるので、見てみてくださいね。
5. Might Get Called My Name
I’m covered in feathers, I cluck, and you might get called my name if you’re scared.
羽根で覆われていて、短く鳴く。何かにおびえた時、あなたも私と同じ名前で呼ばれるかもね。私は誰？
【答え】
Chicken.（チキン／鶏）
【解説】
日本でも弱虫のことを「チキン」と呼んだりしますね。
いくつか解いていくと、何通りかのパターンが見えてきます。なぞなぞの自作にチャレンジするのも楽しそうですね。
